Today let's learn about a rare animal. Its name is Aye Aye Lemur.

The world's largest nocturnal animal, the aye-aye, is found in the forests of the African continent of Madagascar. It is an animal belonging to the lemur genus and lives on trees.

Insects often metamorphose, i.e. a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. A larval stage occurs before that metamorphosis occurs. These larvae are the Ai Ai's main food.

The Aye Aye, which goes out in search of its food at night, knocks on the trees, listens to their echoes, locates the larvae, ascertains if there are any, uses its incisors, bores a hole in the tree, pulls out the larvae with its middle finger and eats them. This method is called echo location method.

Among the lemurs found only on the island of Madagascar, the aye aye is the only mammal belonging to the genus Dobentonia. Douben Tonia is the name of a French naturalist. Similarly, in 1982, another French naturalist named Pierre Sonrat coined the name Aye Aye. This animal is usually three feet long and the tail is longer than the body.Has six fingers. The third finger is the thinnest of all. Aye Aye body weight is about two kgs. Like a squirrel, there is a black stripe on the back.

Spending most of its life in trees, this rodent prefers a solitary life. A spherical nest is constructed of straw and sticks, sometimes supported by another male. However, only the female keeps the animal in her nest during the breeding season.

These are listed as Endangered by the IUCN. They are preserved in North Carolina, USA.

Extended form of IUCN is International Union for Conservation of Nature. Founded in 1948 in Fontainebleau, France. Julian Hux Lay is its founder. So far it has listed more than forty thousand endangered species.
